Always on My Mind (Christiansen Family, Book 4) by Susan May Warren

Book Description:

But when he arrives unannounced on her doorstep, he receives the shock of a lifetime: Raina is pregnant with someone else’s baby.

Heartbroken, especially when he discovers the identity of the baby’s father, Casper tables his dreams and determines to be dependable for once, helping his older brother, Darek, prepare the family resort for its grand reopening. Casper longs to be the hero of at least one family story, but a never-ending Deep Haven winter and costly repairs threaten their efforts—and the future of the resort.

I love, love, love Susan May Warren books! They grab me and don't let go, they linger in my mind and they touch my heart. Even more though, her books speak spiritual truths that are deep and touching, and usually cause reflection. How she manages to do all this without it seeming pushy, fake or shoved in to make a point is a gift. What you find is a treasure...Characters that seem real, are so well fleshed out and completely captivate you. You become engrossed in their lives, their hurts, the mess ups, cheering them on and unable to walk away because you have to know what will happen to them. And even should you put the book down, because sometimes you HAVE to, the characters and story linger in your mind. This is true even when you finish the book!

Warren has once again supplied us with such a story.  This is one novel I have been SERIOUSLY anticipating!!! When I saw it come up last night available to read I was giddy and started it right away. And I could not put it down. In fact, I was so driven by parts of the story I had to skim some small, sub story parts because I couldn't wait and had to know what was going to happen! Yes, I will be rereading this one!  It was so good and had such a driving plot that I zoomed through this one last night in a matter of hours!

Tucked away in this gem of a novel, is a little mystery that unfolds; but even more it's the continuing story of the Christiansen Family! I have LOVED this series!!! Incredibly so! I love catching up with the previous main characters and the sub stories going on with the secondary ones, in each one, usually leading up to the next novel... This one had several of these sub themes going... The mystery/treasure hunt, Darek and Ivy, Amelia and of course the continuing story of this novels two main characters, Casper and Raina! Which will continue to be played out in future books. Don't let that bother you, this one wraps up quiet nicely! I loved the ending! In fact, I was torn in rating this book because in so many ways this is a 5 Star book, but I did skim some, however that was because I was SO consumed with the main story plot!!!

Cannot wait for the next installment in this series!!!!

______________________________________________

What a great novella! This one will put a smile on your face and warm your heart! I loved the characters (main and secondary), the sparks, the story and how it all came to life! I flew through the pages and couldn't put it down till the last page - literally! It was the perfect read for the evening and in general... I came away from this one with that awww, giddy, sweet romantic, happy feeling.

Christmas or not, this is a story to be enjoyed! I cannot wait for the next installment in this series. It will be fun to see the "crazy" and completely lovable grandma again, not to mention more of the characters that were so endearing in this novel. Jones has a way of gifting you not only with humor, romance, and truth but the ability to believe it is all real.

So pick this one up and settle in for a good read!

The Wishing Season (A Chapel Springs Romance, Book 3) by Denise Hunter

Hunter has crafted another well written and engaging novel, filled with chemistry, heart and a plethora of other things to keep the pages turning! PJ and Cole are sure to find a soft place in your heart; you will cheer for them, hurt with them and enjoy flying through the pages to see how things work out. I chuckled, I cried and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

This story is so well done, the characters' lives seem to leap off the pages. And Hunter's message woven in and out, of faith, hope and love comes through so naturally, not pushy or seemingly out of place but all part of the overall story. It rings true!

This is one of those novels, that when you reach the end you are sad to see the last page. I can say, that I highly anticipate Hunter's next release, Married til Monday (Book 4 in the series, coming in June of 2015)! So for all of you out there looking to read a romance with some heart, look no further this one is for you!

Out of the Storm (Beacons of Hope, Prequel): A Novella by Jody Hedlund

Book Description:

Having grown up in a lighthouse, loneliness is all Isabelle Thornton has ever known--and all, she assumes, she ever will know. But when her lightkeeper father rescues a young man from the lake, her sheltered world is turned upside down.

Bestselling author Jody Hedlund's Out of the Storm is her first ever novella and introduces readers to Beacons of Hope, a new series set in the 1800s amid the romance, history, and danger surrounding the Great Lakes lighthouses of Michigan.
__________________________________________

I absolutely adored Isabelle and Henry's story! A delightful, little novella and prequel to the Beacons of Hope series. If you have a chance, start the series off with this one, but you certainly don't have to. It can be easily read alone or after Book 1.

Hedlund amazes me with her ability to craft characters with depth and a story that shines within such a short amount of pages. You will be fully engaged from the beginning and left with a smile upon your face at the end. Truly, a sweet romance!

Love Unexpected (Beacons of Hope, Book 1) by Jody Hedlund

Hedlund once again captures your attention and your heart, as she propels you through a novel rich with history, hope, engaging characters and a plot that holds you until the very end! I have yet to read a novel of hers that I have not loved.

Not only are her novels so well written, her characters and their chemistry so engaging but she captures a place and time in history and brings it to life. I eagerly look forward to the end of her novels where she reveals her source/inspiration for the novel.

Helund also manages bring forth truth in a way that is not pushy but flows. Themes of grace, mercy, hope, forgiveness, trust and more abound in this one. Definitely, a novel not to be missed!

*** I discovered after finishing this novel that Hedlund actually has a prequel/novella for this series called Out of the Storm. You may want to check that out for yourself prior to this novel. Or like me, follow-up with it!

The Secret of Pembrooke Park by Julie Klassen

I am short on time today, so forgive my brevity. Let that in no way dissuade you from reading this novel!

Klassen writes an intriguing and well crafted tale, in The Secret of Pembrooke Park. Mystery, a dash of suspense, add in romance,  well developed characters and a good plot, and you will find yourself immersed in this novel. While, I could guess at who or what I thought might solve the mystery, really until the end you cannot figure it all out. Well done!

While this is not my favorite novel of Klassen's, I did thoroughly enjoy it! And I hope you will too!

Hawk (The Quiet Professionals Book 2) by Ronie Kendig

Book Description:

Plagued with corrupted intel, Raptor team continues to track down the terrorist playing chess with their lives. And when the deadly bombing separates Brian from the team, he must make an impossible choice: save his brothers-in-arms, or save the woman and children depending on him to survive a brutal snowstorm.
________________________________________

Another enjoyable read from Kendig! While the first half was interesting - no doubt, the second half of the book definitely picked up speed! Towards the end I couldn't put it down and stayed up late to finish it. There are definite hints towards Book 3 and a nice lead up.

I only hope I get to see more happening with our other couples in Book 3, as well. While there was a a romantic interest in Book 2, it was really more geared toward military stuff, action and suspense. So if that is what you are looking for... this is right up your alley!

_____________________________________________
What a fantastic YA novel! And I am not even a YA reader, but believe me it doesn't matter your age, I think anyone can enjoy this novel. Also, I can think of several YA, I will recommend this novel to! Not only does Jones paint a scene and circumstance so realistically, as well as characters that ring true, she manages to do this all while captivating your interest and engaging your heart! It has both humor, wit and depth. I am looking forward to book 2 and seeing what will happen next!

___________________________________________
Katie Parker is a character not to be missed; nor this series! I laughed (out loud several times), I cried, and I devoured this novel! This may be a YA novel but I challenge anyone to give this series a try, you will not be disappointed. Jones is a brilliant author, who not only crafts a well written story but does it while keeping you completely charmed and captivated all the way through!

With witty writing, completely believable and likable characters, and insightful humor this novel navigates the ups and downs of life, family, friendships, faith and more. Jones manages to impart some wonderful and insightful truths while not being preachy, it just flows and breaths true. Bring on Book 3!!!

_____________________________________________
Another ace in the hole! While this novel started off a little slower, it picked up pace and didn't leave my mind, even when I had to set it down. While, this one was not as humorous, it had some really intriguing aspects to it. You really get to see some character development and growth, and meet a few new additions to the cast of characters! One not to be missed! Bring on Book 4!

______________________________________

I absolutely loved this series! From the great characters, laughs, drama and faith insights, it was in every way compelling and enchanting! I am terribly sad, to bid ado to Katie Parker and the wonderful and zany characters, I have come to care about.

Jones truly has a gift and I am so glad she is sharing it with all of us! I look forward to reading more by this author and I highly recommend this series to one and all, YA or older... Take a chance, you will be delightfully pleased!

Harvest of Rubies (Book 1) by Tessa Afshar

This novel will completely captivate you and compel you to speed through it  - I did today! Filled with well developed and witty characters, that seem quiet real and are endearing, you are sure to not only delight in their character development but also anxiously long to see how their circumstances will work out. Do they learn and grow, do they trust and forgive, or will they let their own insecurities and pride be their downfall?

Afshar has filled this novel with wonderful "rubies" of truth, lessons and encouragement for each of us. This is one not to be missed! And what is even better, the story is not over - Book 2, Harvest of Gold is already in print and I cannot wait to open its pages!

Update: Having just finished Harvest of Gold, I have to tell you that I was a little disappointed. While it was good and did have some solid biblical truths in it. It just felt lacking overall. I was not as engaged, and esp. towards the end did a lot of skim reading. If you are looking for a really great biblical fiction book about Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the wall, I highly recommend Lynn Austin's first book in The Restoration Chronicles, Return to Me (Book 1). All that said, will I read another book by Tessa Afshar? Yes, absolutely! My favorite by her is still Pearl in the Sand, excellent!

Keepers of the Covenant (The Restoration Chronicles, Book 2) by Lynn Austin

For those of you who love biblical fiction, you should definitely check out Lynn Austin's novels in that genre. Her series, The Chronicles of the Kings (5 Books) is absolutely amazing! So when Austin began her new series, The Restoration Chronicles, needlessly to say I was thrilled.

Keepers of the Covenant, Book 2 in this series, is without a doubt a wonderful, well written and moving novel. It brings to life the OT times and sheds more light on a time period, where normally the focus would have been on Queen Esther. However, in this novel, Austin writes the story from the perspective of several different Jewish exiles and a Gentile, scattered in the Babylonian Empire.

I loved looking at this story with fresh eyes. Seeing the way Austin not only wove in God's love, mercy, grace and the miraculous as well as showing us His Holiness and the calling to live set apart unto Him; while in the midst of this creating not only relate able characters but ones that endear themselves to you. At one part in the novel, I was so captivated and held in suspense, I could literally feel my heart pounding in my chest.

There were however, parts of the story that seemed a little repetitive or unnecessary, and because of that I did not give this novel an even higher rating. Nevertheless, this novel is well worth your time to read! It is captivating and will make this area of the OT come alive, with a breath of fresh perspective and tugs of reflective thoughtfulness in your own life.

Definitely on my recommendations list!

Her relationship with Mark deteriorates, and Miska can't help comparing him to Dillan. His religious views are so foreign, yet the way he treats her is something she's longed for. _________________________________________________
Oh wow, and I do mean wow!!! This book was sooo good! In the beginning I wasn't sure if it would live up to all the hype I read in its reviews; I mean I thought it was good and all but it wasn't blowing me away... But just wait, it will! There comes a point where you are so consumed by this story, these characters, that you are no longer sitting on your couch reading a novel, you are there! These do not seem like characters but they live and breathe, and you cannot walk away from them.

This story was so good on so many levels. Captivating, well formed and smooth flowing, this novel breathed life, it was so real. The characters were honest, fresh and compelling; their interactions, their doubts, struggles, hurts and more brought a sense of reality to this novel in the best possible way. Miska's questions on faith, her struggle with it and later her desire for it, seemed very natural, never pushed or unrealistic. One of the reviewers referred to this novel as being a modern day classic version of Redeeming Love. And in some ways it is. Both are excellent novels, dealing with similar subject matter... Sin, redemption, grace, love, fear, faith, and so much more. All I can say is this book is one to add to your must read list, it is well worth your time reading it. In fact, I wouldn't mind reading it again today!

Simply, an amazing debut novel! I am excited to see what Sally Bradley has in store for us next!

A Cliché Christmas by Nicole Deese

Book Description:

Writing happy endings is easy. Living one is the hard part.
Georgia Cole—known in Hollywood as the “Holiday Goddess”—has made a name for herself writing heartwarming screenplays chock-full of Christmas clichés, but she has yet to experience the true magic of the season. So, when her eccentric grandmother volunteers her to direct a pageant at Georgia’s hometown community theater, she is less than thrilled. To make matters worse, she’ll be working alongside Weston James, her childhood crush and the one man she has tried desperately to forget.
Now, facing memories of a lonely childhood and the humiliation of her last onstage performance, seven years earlier, Georgia is on the verge of a complete mistletoe meltdown. As Weston attempts to thaw the frozen walls around her heart, Georgia endeavors to let go of her fears and give love a second chance. If she does, will she finally believe that Christmas can be more than a cliché?
______________________________________________

Nicole Deese is a bright shining star, rising up in Christian Fiction! Her first series wowed me, and she continues to not only impress, but she also continues to inspire and captivate readers with her latest release. This novel, started out as darling but it continued to build and escalate on so many levels, culminating in a very good read.

I absolutely love novels with well written characters and well developed relationships. Good dialogue and interactions are key. And Deese has a way of doing all of that, while steadily thrilling you sweetly, and building a momentum in the story that does not leave you disappointed. In fact, when finished with this novel, I was happily grinning and completely satisfied!

Now, going beyond this well crafted story, characters and relationships, Deese pulls you in to recognizing some deeper truths. Faith and love lessons, that speak to both our spirit and our heart. Doing this, while keeping the romance both sweet and steamy is quiet a feat and she does it so smoothly. I was touched on many levels while reading this novel and completely blessed by it! I cannot wait to see what she is working on next!

Surprised by Love (The Heart of San Francisco, #3) by Julie Lessman

I have been a big fan of Julie Lessman, ever since she first released her debut novel. She always leaves me eagerly awaiting her next release, and she never disappoints! Case in point with this novel! Absolutely captivating characters, real and wonderful dialogue, romance, spice, and the angst that keeps you reading till the very last page! But even more than all of that, are the faith sub-themes running through... Fear, pride, truth setting you free, trust, prayer, true love and above all it is about the ONE true love and clinging to Him! She very nicely and in a non-pushy way, wove all this in. One reoccurring theme being that of being like (OT) Abraham and truly trusting God and putting Him first, surrendering those we love on earth to Him, and trusting Him to bring about what is good.

This novel was completely delightful! I was surprised, in a very good way towards the end. A wonderful and engaging wrap up to this series! Not to say that there are not characters in this series she couldn't continue to write about - there are! Either way, excited to see what she has in store for us next! Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did!

Wishing on Willows is the follow-up novel to Ganshert's debut novel, Wildflowers from Winter. I absolutely adored this book! The characters are so life like and likable, the circumstances real and engaging, and the flow of the novel is set at such a nice cadence. Truly, you do not want this novel to end. I wouldn't have minded a few more chapters, but then I don't know if you are ever truly ready to say farewell to some characters/stories.

I like that Ganshert writes compelling and true to life stories, they are not only fresh and heart touching but there is a deeper truth being woven throughout. She is not pushy in the way the seeds of faith are woven in, she is in fact completely honest and real... Walking us through the struggles and the victories.

I have to say, well done! I eagerly await Ganshert's next novel and hope you will give this one a try!

Wildflowers from Winter: A Novel by Katie Ganshert

Book Description:
Like the winter, grief has a season. Life returns with the spring.

A young architect at a prestigious Chicago firm, Bethany Quinn has built the life she dreamed of during her teen years in a trailer park.  An unexpected interruption from her estranged mother reveals that tragedy has struck in her hometown and a reluctant Bethany is called back to rural Iowa.

Handsome farmhand Evan Price has taken care of the Quinn farm for years.  When Bethany is left the land, Evan must fight her decisions to realize his dreams. But even as he disagrees with Bethany’s vision, Evan feels drawn to her and the pain she keeps so carefully locked away.

For Bethany, making peace with her past and the God of her childhood doesn’t seem like the path to freedom. Is letting go the only way to new life, love and a peace that she’s not even sure exists?
_____________________________________________________
I have to say this novel grabbed my attention and held it throughout. In fact, I probably would have rated it higher, except through the first half of the novel I really didn't care for our heroine. Although, this adds to the story and the character buildup, as well as relations, it just bugged me.

However, let that not deter you from reading this novel! It is well worth the read. I found myself still thinking about it later that night and this morning. And I am so excited that this novel isn't the end, and cannot wait to begin Ganshert's next novel and pick up with these characters again! This is a wonderful debut novel and I look forward to reading more from this author. Her characters are well developed, and the story is about so much more that just romance, there is a greater story at work. One where the Truth is woven in and done so in a way that just flows.

Okay, I honestly can't think to write anymore right now because I am so hyped up to start the followup novel!  That in itself should tell you enough!

PS. I read Ganshert's novella - An October Bride and it was wonderful!!!

A Broken Kind of Beautiful: A Novel by Katie Ganshert

Book Description:
Sometimes everything you ever learned about yourself is wrong

Fashion is a fickle industry, a frightening fact for twenty-four year old model Ivy Clark. Ten years in and she’s learned a sacred truth—appearance is everything. Nobody cares about her broken past as long as she looks beautiful for the camera. This is the only life Ivy knows—so when it starts to unravel, she’ll do anything to hold on. Even if that means moving to the quaint island town of Greenbrier, South Carolina, to be the new face of her stepmother’s bridal wear line—an irony too rich for words, since Ivy is far from the pure bride in white.

If only her tenuous future didn’t rest in the hands of Davis Knight, her mysterious new photographer. Not only did he walk away from the kind of success Ivy longs for to work maintenance at a local church, he treats her differently than any man ever has. Somehow, Davis sees through the façade she works so hard to maintain. He, along with a cast of other characters, challenges everything Ivy has come to believe about beauty and worth. Is it possible that God sees her—a woman stained and broken by the world—yet wants her still?
_____________________________________________________

A compelling tale, with grit, heart and a message for us all. Ganshert's characters are real and honest and broken. And who doesn't love a good story where the broken are lifted up and made new - I know I do!  The romance is sweet but even greater is the BIG LOVE STORY woven throughout! This is the first of Katie Ganshert's novels that I have read, but I look forward to reading more!

Love's Fortune: A Novel (The Ballantyne Legacy, Book 3) by Laura Frantz

Picking up one of Laura Frantz's novels, is like stepping into another time and place. You become immersed in the beauty of her writing, the depth of her characters and their dialogue and you are completely swept away into the story setting itself. Frantz has yet to write a novel, that I have not thoroughly enjoyed! This, her latest release, is no different. I was completely enraptured with the story and found my heart pulled, my mind captive and myself dreading its' completion.

Frantz pens characters that hold your heart and breathe as they tread through life and difficult choices. Her characters have depth, passion and ring true. I love seeing the build up of relationships, the complexity, and the tender moments that touch us all. I also love seeing characters evolve and/or hold true to what is unique or good in themselves. In this novel, I was even more blessed, as we had not only two main characters but also two very large secondary characters' stories playing out through the pages. It was exciting all the way until the very end, to say the least.

I am not one to give spoilers, so I am not quiet sure what else to say... Except, dive into this novel and find yourself captivated and delighted within its' pages! A fantastic read and well worth every moment!

When Zahrah is captured because of her expertise in quantum cryptology, endangering the US national security, Dean is forced to crack the lockbox around his heart—a move that might come at the highest cost.
_________________________________________________________
I really enjoyed this novel! I have yet to read a novel by Kendig that I haven't enjoyed. I wish I could have breezed through this one uninterrupted but life has gotten very busy for me lately and sadly I had to read it in snatches. Still I had no trouble getting back into the story. I do remember however, that the first few chapters just felt like you were thrown into the middle of something with not enough information. But after that the flow and cohesion were good.

This story had well written, strong lead characters. That I really hope we will see more of their story played out in the course of the next book or the series. Otherwise, I think I will be a little disappointed. Still overall, well done, engrossing read. Kendig handled tough situations well, giving enough information but not too much when needed. I look forward to book 2 in this series!

Instead of doing a post on each individual serial novel, I am doing one on the whole series. While I do not want to give anything away, I do want to add my two bits. First of all, I thoroughly enjoyed this series! However, if you are a fast reader, and go through books quickly you may want to read these back to back, like one very large novel. Which fortunately for you, you can now do as they are all available! For me having to wait a week for each one to come out, while reading other books in between made it hard to keep the story fresh in my mind. I found I got more out of the ones I waited to read with another immediately following it.

If you are a Kendig fan, you will find her trademark writing throughout. Well written characters, suspense, action, mystery and a dash of romance and faith round out her novels well. I have to admit that she kept me in particular suspense in regard to how a couple of the love interest stories would work out. Now for me, things didn't exactly end the way I wanted with one of them. But hey, that may just be me, and it didn't take away from the story. Also, for me the ending while very good, was a little too rushed. I felt there were a few loose ends I would have liked to see wrapped up and wished the story would have had a few more chapters doing this.

All in all, I found this to be a very entertaining read!

Kisses from Katie: A Story of Relentless Love and Redemption by Katie J. Davis

Book Descrpition:

What would cause an eighteen-year-old old senior class president and homecoming queen from Nashville, Tennessee, to disappoint her parents by forgoing college, break her little brother’s heart, lose all but a handful of her friends (because the rest of them think she has gone off the deep end), and break up with the love of her life, all so she could move to Uganda, where she knew only one person but didn’t know any of the language? A passion to make a difference. Katie Davis left over Christmas break her senior year for a short mission trip to Uganda and her life was turned completely inside out. She found herself so moved by the people and children of Uganda that she knew her calling was to return and care for them. She has given up a relatively comfortable life—at a young age—to care for the less fortunate of this world. She was so moved by the need she witnessed, she's centered her life around meeting that need. Katie, a charismatic and articulate young woman, is in the process of adopting 13 children in Uganda, and she completely trusts God for daily provision for her and her family.

Despite the rough conditions in which Katie lives, she has found a life of service to God to be one of great joy. Katie's children bring constant delight and help her help others by welcoming whoever comes to their door. As the challenges grow, so does Katie's faith and her certainty that what she's doing in Uganda, one person at a time, will have far-reaching rewards. It isn't the life she planned, but it is the life she loves.

To further her reach into the needs of Ugandans, Katie established Amazima Ministries. The ministry matches orphaned children with sponors worldwide. Each sponsor's $300/year provides schooling, school supplies, three hot meals a day, minor medical care, and spiritual encouragement. Katie expected to have forty children in the program; she had signed up 150 by January 2008; today it sponsors over 400. Another aspect of the ministry is a feeding program created for the displaced Karamojong people—Uganda's poorest citizens. The program feeds lunch to over 1200 children Monday-Friday and sends them home with a plate of food; it also offers basic medical care, Bible study, and general health training.

Katie Davis, now 22, is more than fascinating, she's inspiring, as she has wholeheartedly answered the call to serve.

Inspiring, gripping and heart felt! Katie Davis didn't set out to be a missionary, a person bringing change and hope, an example... She just loved Jesus and she followed where He led her. She pursued His love and the love He gave her for this place and the people there. Home is where the heart is and Katie's home is wherever Jesus would call her to be and right now that is in Uganda.

I found this story to be not only well written, with an easy, conversational style flow, but also very encouraging and inspiring. Inspired to do what God calls me to do, and to know that yes, even just one thing, one person, can have a huge impact. Not just here on earth but for eternity. No, we don't all need to pack our bags and move. Some of us may, but for many, God is calling us to love the people He has placed in our lives and areas. To reach out and seize the opportunities He brings our way. To live and love, beyond ourselves. To live and love, filled with His love and strength at work in us. To share.

There are some critics out there, but when are there not?! The main thing isn't about pleasing people but pleasing God. And that is what Katie Davis is living to do. She's didn't set out to do some awesome thing, she just followed God. Where He leads her she goes and she obeys. I thank God for her and others like her who are out there being the hands and feet of Jesus. Not just serving, but showing and sharing the love of God, and telling them about Jesus; not just in words but in actions too. If your hearts not in it, if there isn't love, as 1 Corinthians 13 tells us, it's all empty.

Again, this book is to inspire not tell you how to do ministry but to follow God where He leads you and to be obedient. I love how she shares her heart and how God captured it so completely, giving her a passion and love not only for Him but for this place and its people - for these children. She is honest, refreshingly so. Life is hard but God is good. He is faithful. Let us rejoice!

Kendig's debut novel blew me away! This is no light weight story, and I for one was glad. Even at the end I still did not want to part with this novel and its' characters. Dead Reckoning will draw you in and have you speeding through the pages. In fact reading this novel is like watching an action, suspense, romance movie.

Thrilling story, engaging characters - all the way around, a well written novel. Kendig knows how to balanced a story. One in which you don't feel as if you are reading about people, as much as you feel you are in the story. She knows how to gear up the suspense, when to add the romance and how to write characters & emotions that seem real and fleshed out. In fact, Kendig has yet to write a novel that I can't say this about - She has found a fan in me!

Captured by Love by Jody Hedlund

Jody Hedlund has yet to write a novel that I haven't loved! She did not disappoint with her newest novel, crafting once again not only a well told story but one rich in history, depth, characters and emotions! From the beginning she captured my attention and held it steadily throughout the novel. Even when I had to put the book down, it still lingered on my mind and I could not wait to return to its' pages.

Hedlund has a way of bringing History to life in her novels, she not only makes it interesting but engages your mind and emotions as you journey through a place and time period. Learning about Michilimackinac Island and the people held there during this time of unrest was fascinating. Her characters seem to live and breath, and garner a place in your heart. I so enjoyed Pierre and Angelique's story. Their struggles, failings, hopes, and desire to do what is right, all pull at you. They are characters you love and root for. Characters who manage to help you see yourself and examine truths, all the while being completely captivated by their story, as you hungrily devour the pages to see what will become of them! All I can say is that this novel is SO good, a definite keeper!

Wow, what a fantastic series! Firethorn, Book 4 and the grand finale of the series is another sure fire winner! This novel brings all our characters back for one page gripping  read. We enter Book 4, with Legend falsely accused and imprisoned, and the rest of the team and their families under attack! If you have been a fan of the first 3 books in this series then this is a must read for you.

Kendig superbly writes strong characters, their angst, their valor, heart, struggles; and wraps you up in nonstop suspense, action and life lessons all the way until the end. Lessons on fear, forgiveness, pride, struggling to be in control and learning to trust - others and God. There is so much to give nod to, I feel as if I could go on and on. The interactions and relationships are so real, so well fleshed out that they live and breath off the pages. There were a few chuckles during the reading of this novel, but also some tears shed. Man, I hate to say goodbye to this group of characters! Any chance they can make a come back in another series!?!

One thing I can say for sure, Kendig has found a fan in me! A superb series and finale!

______________________________________

Wow, what an intense, action packed ride! I had to stay up way too late last night to finish, what I believe to be Kendig's best novel yet! Man are her characters believable! Reading this novel, felt like sitting through a movie on the edge of my seat most of the time.

Let's go beyond the well fleshed out characters, the suspenseful plot; this story had heart to it. Kendig shows us pieces of ourselves and of life, and they are not all puppies and roses. There are hard things we face in this life, at times evil seems to have the upper hand but we must remember God is with us, God is for us. Do we trust Him? Are we willing to surrender all to Him and let Him work things out? Many times, if we are honest, we fail;  we try to do things in our own strength and in our way. We are prideful. We are sinful.

This book is not your typical Christian fiction, there are some surprises packed in here. There is a message beneath all the suspense, the pain, the betrayals and sin. A message that is not preachy but real, honest and so well crafted that it grabs you. Yes, we live in a fallen world, and yes, all of us have sinned. The question is what do we do in response? Hopefully, there is repentance of our sin, a turning to God. Still, sin has consequences, some reaching beyond us and touching the lives of others. Do we also, take responsibility for our mistakes, do we try to make amends?

I applaud Kendig on a superbly written novel. I loved the realness of her characters. I loved the Metcalfe family... You could do a whole series on this family alone! (And I wish she would). Kendig hits all the bases with this one - mystery, suspense, action, romance, drama, faith and more; and she brings it all in for a home run! Fantastic!

Digitalis (Discarded Heroes, Book 2) by Ronie Kendig

Book Description:
Step into the boots of a former Marine in this heart-pounding adventure in life and love. Colton “Cowboy” Neeley is a Marine trying to find his footing as he battles flashbacks now that he’s back home. Piper Blum is a woman in hiding—from life and the assassins bent on destroying her family. When their hearts collide, more than their lives are at stake. Will Colton find a way to forgive Piper’s lies? Can Piper find a way to rescue her father, trapped in Israel? Is there any way their love, founded on her lies, can survive?
___________________________

While Digitalis is the 2nd book in a series, you could read it as a stand alone. Like Book 1, this is a fast paced, action packed ride! Kendig really helped you to feel for Colton and his struggles, they seemed very real and added depth to the story. I enjoyed the suspense, the action, and characters.

However, this one just didn't sync with me like Book1 did for a few reasons. The romance between the two main characters didn't feel as flushed out and seemed too rushed. And there were editing errors (ebook) that bothered me.

Overall, still a bang up good read!

Susan May Warren, I fell in love... all over again with your wonderful, rich, lively cast of characters & with this novel! It was beautiful, sweet, honest and so real I felt as if I was living in it! Your novels are absolutely wonderful & inspiring! And this is one of those novels you absolutely hate to set down & even when you do you can't stop thinking about it. I loved it!

ABSOLUTELY  WONDERFUL!!! Let me try to count the ways... Engaging, well fleshed out characters you love - check; a plot that keeps the pages turning - check; things that pull at your heart and that minister to you - check; truths to ponder and apply - check; I could go on and on and on... Agh, the wait for the next book is going to drive me crazy! Warren already laid the ground work in this novel and trust me, it hooks you!

I don't like to give too much of the story away... but I just want to say WOW, kudos to Warren for writing Max and Grace's story, it is different, touching and will give you some thing to think on. Be brave, live life fully! Sure, life can be messy and things don't always go the way we planned but there is something about being open and willing to risk, to put ourselves out there and try, that can birth some of the most beautiful and memorable times of our lives! Fall in love, first of all with Christ - Who is the One, the something more you are searching for. Be inspired by His love and let it flow through you and your life!

Again, an awesome novel!

Nightshade (Discarded Heroes, Book 1) by Ronie Kendig

Book Description:
Soldiers all across the globe are returning home to their families after brutal tours of duty. They are discharged from the service. . .and on their own. Meet Max Jacobs, one of these discarded heroes, as he faces a wall of failure—in his career, his friendships, and his marriage. Failing again—this time to end his life—he is offered a thread of hope. Are covert government operations the answer for him, or will they only bring more danger and dissension upon his broken family?
__________________________________________
Danger, torn relationships, secrets, murder, hostages... this book has enough stuff to keep you glued to your seat & the pages rapidly turning! I wasn't sure if this novel would be up my alley, but from the beginning Kendig grabbed me & held me captive through a wild and fast paced read. It was awesome! In fact, it was so good I had to stay up late to finish it! The suspense, interesting plot & characters all made for a great read. A nice touch of mystery at the end leads you to know there is danger ahead for this team in future books.

The one thing that I think readers may take issue with is how from time to time parts of the story are paced in the future & other parts the past... Then there is the present goings on. It wasn't clearly labeled as such but you figure it out as you read it. As people are discussed being saved that are at other parts of the novel still in captivity. Things at the end did wrap up a little too quickly for me but then again I wasn't ready for the story to be over.

Kendig was insightful & heartfelt as she wrote about PTSD & how what the soldiers go through & what they see affects them & their families. The elements of faith & struggle seemed both real & not pushy. This was a great faith based suspense/action novel with a touch of romance added in. All around a good read.

There You'll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones

Book Description:

Beckett Rush, teen heartthrob and Hollywood bad boy, is flying to Ireland to finish filming his latest vampire movie. On the flight, he meets Finley. She’s the one girl who seems immune to his charm. Undeterred, Beckett convinces her to be his assistant in exchange for his help as a tour guide.

Once in Ireland, Finley starts to break down. The loss of her brother and the pressure of school, her audition, and whatever it is that is happening between her and Beckett, leads her to a new and dangerous vice. When is God going to show up for her in this emerald paradise?

Then she experiences something that radically changes her perspective on life. Could it be God convincing her that everything she’s been looking for has been with her all along?
____________________________________

Absolutely wonderful!!! This novel was hard to put down, the pages just kept turning... Jones beautiful portrays a powerful and moving tale of a young lady dealing with loss and questioning where is God, is He listening, does He care? In fact she does such a good job of portraying all of this, and so much more that our heroine seems to live and breath off the pages. Her life and struggles seem all too real, and there is a message that ministers to us at any age, and at any stage we find ourselves in. So, although this may be labeled YA, this novel will have no trouble reaching out to a more mature audience. I believe any reader would come away just as impressed and touched as I am.

The romance was sweet and appropriate for a YA novel (some mild kisses). And for those who fear it might be too heavy or depressing, let me assure you that Jones tosses some humor into her tale as well. This is a well rounded novel, with nicely developed characters and relationships. Seriously, beautifully written!
